For the Love of Reading

A recent article in The Atlantic asserts Americans aren’t reading books as much as they used to and I understand why. Life is busy. But reading is a hobby I love, and something I protect the time for. There is nothing like losing track of time and getting lost in a new perspective or story.

My reading stack is a real mix, and it grows faster than I can get through it. Plenty of business and nonfiction, and just as much fiction. Both earn their place, and I always welcome recommendations. I just finished Yesteryear, which was a wild ride, and The Calamity Club is shaping up to be incredible. Thanks Carrie Bobb Shope for both.

As of right now these are a few titles currently capturing my attention:

Good Writing: 36 Ways to Improve Your Sentences by Neal Allen and Anne Lamott offers a practical, step-by-step approach to improving your writing. The married co-authors narrate the audiobook themselves, and their back-and-forth is entertaining.

The 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington. A framework I’ve returned to repeatedly for its practical approach to goal setting, execution, and maintaining momentum by thinking in shorter, more focused cycles.

Flash Teams: Leading the Future of AI-Enhanced, On-Demand Work by Melissa Valentine and Michael Bernstein. An interesting look at how organizations can move faster by empowering smaller, more agile teams.

A few more titles are still vying for my attention, and I’d love to hear what’s sparking yours.
