Inter Generational Engagement

Dinner tables have always been multi generational.

I grew up around Boomers. The youngest of five, I have 15 nieces and nephews, most of whom are Millennials and Gen-Z. I’m a Gen-X mom with Gen Alpha kids. We’re integrated in each other’s lives, connected by conversation that flows across ages.

When wisdom meets curiosity, mentorship moves in both directions. When every decade is included, on dance floors, at dinner tables, and within communities–life feels richer, as if we’re finally recognizing the shared influence across generations.

Listening to my colleague Anjee Solanki’s podcast with Gregg Katz of ESRI, I was struck by how generational lines are flattening. Rather than defining people by age, they are reframed by shared behaviors, values, and recurring life stages. Celebrated by our curiosity, adaptability, wellness-seeking, value-consciousness, and striving for self-expression. Influence is cyclical, not linear.

Today’s communities bring together people shaped by very different cultural moments, technologies, and economic realities. What was once an unspoken mix of ages is now a visible exchange of perspectives, values, and lived experience.

Intergenerational engagement creates richer conversations, more resilient communities, and spaces that reflect how real people live, connect, and contribute. When generations come together, communities don’t just grow more diverse—they grow stronger.
