A Community Champion

One of my favorite things about working in San Francisco is being surrounded by people who care deeply about their neighborhoods.

Susan Eslick is one of those people — a true champion of Dogpatch, the neighborhood nestled between Potrero Hill and the bay. She guided me on a tour of the neighborhood, past Piccino—a longtime favorite restaurant that helped define Dogpatch’s character. We stopped by to see Adam Zolot at Dogpatch Paddle, the neighborhood’s (and the City’s) go-to spot for water sports, gear and rentals. Walking those streets reminded me of the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that continue to drive this community’s success.

We also walked through the beautifully restored Esprit Park, a project years in the making that now gives Dogpatch an even stronger heartbeat for neighbors and visitors alike.

Dogpatch has always had grit, history, and character. What stands out to me is how much of that energy is fueled by committed San Franciscans who invest not only in buildings, but in community.

Susan, thank you for the walk, the stories, and for showing us how places and people come together.
