Our Very First Client + Framil

When I talk about Courtney Jones, I proudly tell people she was my very first client. I still remember our first lunch meeting when we talked about working together. It was clear from that moment: Courtney is a force–  dynamic, engaging, and sharp as hell. Since then, she’s been both a trusted client and a true friend.  It’s a pleasure to feature her in this month’s Remarkable Women

What is your superpower, and how has it shaped your life and career?

Without a doubt, choosing my FRAMILY (Friends + Family) has been my superpower for as long as I can remember, and it has delivered the most joyful of friendships for which I’m so very grateful.  These relationships provide unconditional love, endless laughter, occasional tears, ongoing emotional support, constructive feedback, and countless shared experiences/memories (in and out of the office). Choosing them was (and is) the easy part – the real superpower is keeping these relationships meaningful and relevant. We are all humans trying to get through life.

People respond positively to you when you live in your truth, seeking connection, expressing vulnerability, and being curious without judgment–it has served me well personally and professionally. An incredible scene in an episode of Ted Lasso (S1) speaks to curiosity–be inspired.

What’s something about you that most people wouldn’t guess, but plays a significant role in who you are?

I’m equal parts introvert and extrovert; people assume I’m very extroverted, a social butterfly, the Julie McCoy (dating myself here) of any planned activity, and always up for being out and about. I also love my alone time, listening to curated song lists, daydreaming about my life while on a long walk in Golden Gate Park, or retiring early to ensure a solid 8 hours of sleep each night. If my introverted self doesn’t prioritize time to recharge, my extroverted self wouldn’t exist.

How do you use your talents to uplift and empower others, especially women? I’m a “hype” person who will scream from the mountaintop about how awesome you are.  I will praise your accomplishments, pump you up before a big presentation, help prep you for whatever important meeting is on the calendar, give you space and independence, and get deep in the trenches to work through a challenge. I’m highly adaptable, have strong emotional intelligence, and will adjust my approach based on who I’m working with.  Everyone is different, and managing a team of talented women is not a one-size-fits-all exercise.
